The Winemaker

Matthew Bowness (Winemaker)
Matt began at Sittella in mid 2003. A graduate of Wine Science at Curtin University, Matt also brings a wealth of international experience to winemaking at Sittella. Having worked vintages in the French wine regions of Burgundy and Languedoc, the Napa Valley in California, McLaren Vale in South Australia as well as Margaret River and the Swan Valley in Western Australia.

Matt enjoys various types of wine across an array of styles and says he enjoys the challenges of producing over 20 different wines including sparklings, table, and of course fortifieds! Working closely with chef, Mike Price, he revels in producing wines to accompany foods, and its no surprise that his favourite wines include; barrel fermented Semillons, big bold hearty reds, and sumptuous 'liqueur style' fortifieds.

Hugh Murray (Assistant Winemaker)
Hugh joined the Sittella crew in January 2008. Hailing from Esperance in the states south, he grew up working on his family's vineyard. He graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2003 achieving his bachelor of Applied Science (Wine Science). With 7 years experience and doing vintages in Germany, Italy, New Zealand, USA, as well as many regions throughout Australia, Hugh is a welcome addition to the Sittella team.
